Stroudsburg (PA) As a special fundraiser there will be a Farm to Table Food Tasting Experience - Saturday September 5, 2015 at Quiet Valley’s historic farm museum. Folks will be able to visit the farm for a very tasty tour focused on end of summer produce and traditional harvest lore.
Evening is an especially lovely time on the farm and it tends to give you a better sense of what it might have truly felt like in rural Pennsylvania during the 1800s. From 4:00 to 6:30 pm small groups will go out every 20 minutes with the last one going at 6:30pm. The Farm to Table Experience takes place rain or shine. The evening starts at the workshop where guests can sample a handcrafted ham and bean soup, a country favorite that used some of the variety of beans grown on the farm as well as a standard pork staple. At the cellar kitchen enjoy the battle between sweet potatoes and yams and learn the difference between the two. After trying a dishes of each whose side will win as your favorite. At the bake oven try our PA German take on shepherd’s pie, a hearty meal to warm your belly. The visit wouldn’t be complete without a sweet so in the schoolhouse peaches will be the featured food and different varieties will be discussed, all while visitors nibble on dessert. Recipes will be shared. When folks have finish the round of food tastings stop by the garden and participate in a few harvest activities. The food tasting takes about an hour and a half and is $15.00 per adult, $10.00 for children 3-12. Tickets can be purchased in the gift shop that day. If you have never visited the farm at twilight you won’t want to miss this special opportunity. This is a delicious and unique way to support Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. Deez Nuts Running for President
Brady Olson, a Wallingford teenager whose identity as Deez Nuts was confirmed by a tweet from his father, told Rolling Stone magazine he is a 15-year-old incoming high school sophomore with "no day job, no kids, no marriage."
Olson, whose fictional candidate was found to be polling at 9 percent in North Carolina by the latest Public Policy Polling data, said his parents have been supportive about his campaign, which he said was born out of "half trying to break the two-party system, half frustration with the front-runners."
The teenager, who said he tends to "side more with the Libertarian Party," said he isn't a fan of the Democratic or Republican front-runners.
"I really didn't want to see [Hillary] Clinton, [Jeb] Bush, or [Donald] Trump in the White House, so I guess I'm just trying to put up a fight," Olson said.
When asked what qualifies him to be president, Olson responded: "The fact that if I can fill out a form so vague that it doesn't include your age, or the fact that all get accepted even if they're only partially filled, anyone can run."
The incomplete FEC paperwork for Deez Nuts can be viewed online.
Olson said he asked Public Policy Polling to include Deez Nuts in its polling data, but "I wanted it to be against low-pollers, like me vs Lindsey Graham vs Lincoln Chafee, to see how desperate voters would be in that situation."
He said he would make a better president than Donald Trump "because I'm young and I think I have fresher ideas because whatever decisions I make would have longer effects on me."
Olson said there are two candidates he likes, Democrat Bernie Sanders and LibertarianGary Johnson, and he offered some advice to Hillary Clinton in the form of a question: "Why can't you be more open and friendly like Bernie?"
The teenager said he is willing to take his practical joke "As far as America wants to take it."
Bee Display at Blue Valley Farm Show The Monroe County Beekeepers Association will have a Bee display at the Blue Valley Farm Show from August 18 to August 22.

Cliff Diver Sets World's Record
Laso Schaller, 27, who was born in Brazil and raised in Switzerland, hit the water at a speed of 76.4 mph when he jumped earlier this month from atop the waterfall in Maggia, Switzerland.
A video of the jump, shared online by Red Bull, shows Schaller's jump from multiple perspectives, including a first-person view from his helmet camera.
The video shows how Italy's leaning tower of Pisa could fit between Schaller's jumping point and the surface of the water.
Schaller's team aerated the water to cushion his impact, but the daredevil overshot his mark and landed in the harder water close to the center of the pool.
The stunt left Schaller with a slightly dislocated right hip, but he emerged from the water smiling.
The previous world record for cliff diving was a distance of 177 feet, set by Olivier Favre in 1987.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL....
(StatePoint) Many kids love the prospect of learning, while others may need a bit of motivation. But parents can get kids on board with a little encouragement and creativity to make learning fun. Here are some ideas to get kids excited to learn.
Library Visits By making a run-of-the-mill trip to the library seem like a true adventure, kids will associate books with intrigue at an impressionable age. The librarian can point out the best titles for inspiring learning and fun. Time visits to occur during your local branch’s storytelling hour or other early childhood programming. Also, be sure to sign your child up for a personal library card, which will be a source of pride at the circulation desk and put them on the path of reading enrichment. Learning Tablets To give kids an extra edge in learning, consider a fun yet educational tablet, such as the InnoTab MAX. Durable enough for kids, this device has a 7-inch multi-touch screen, and features progressive learning content that adapts to a child’s age. Web access and communication apps, which kids can use to exchange messages with friends and family, are limited to protect children, and parents are free to manage these controls. The tablet comes with Movie Maker and Art Studio, amongst other apps, and additional content can be found at the Learning Lodge app store. “The tablet has proven to be a welcome way for kids to interact with digital media,” says Dr. Eric Klopfer, Platform Learning Expert and member of the Expert Panel at VTech, a world leader in age-appropriate and developmental stage-based electronic learning products for children. “Touch interfaces and well-crafted content have meant an easy-on ramp for many children who learn through this technology.” Board Game Night After dinner, gather round the table a second time. From classic word games that challenge one to stretch the limits of his or her vocabulary, to trivia games testing science and world history knowledge, board games have the potential to bring the family together and also to educate. Be sure to check the box for age-appropriate guidance. Wearable Tech Wearable technology can inspire kids to learn and be creative while staying active. For example, the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX offers motion-activated games, a stopwatch, calendar, 3D clock face and calculator so kids can work out simple math problems. It also includes a time-telling app featuring a friendly owl that helps kids learn to tell time, and additional apps are available for download on the Learning Lodge. The internal memory offers ample storage for budding photographers and videographers documenting the world around them. Sweeten the Deal Consider creating a rewards chart where children can track their progress as they meet learning goals. It can be an effective way to motivate kids to try new ways of learning and work hard to reach a goal. You can find many free downloadable charts online. More ideas can be found at www.vtechkids.com/parenting. To make learning a priority in your home, get kids on board. They’ll be inspired when they see that learning can be fun. . |

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
