Lightning Strike on Delta Plane
Jack Perkins posted a video to YouTube showing the view from his plane window as a line of planes waited to take off during weather-related ground hold at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Tuesday. The video shows lightning strike a Delta 737 near the base of its tail.
Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant confirmed lightning struck Delta Flight 67 while it was waiting to take off for a flight to Las Vegas. There were no injuries among the 111 passengers and six crew, and the flight took off about two hours behind schedule. The plane landed safely in Las Vegas.
"As with any event involving aircraft, Delta is doing a thorough investigation of the circumstances around this flight as safety is always Delta's top priority," Durrant wrote in an email to CNN.
"Aircraft design allows lightning bolts to be safely redirected," Durrant wrote. "Fuselage structure and industrial-grade insulation acts as [a] super-conductive lightning rod that rechannels lightning around and away from customers and crew and out into the ground via the landing gear."

GoPro Records Encounter w/Bear's Jaws
The video posted to the Russian Geographical Society's official YouTube channel was recorded by a GoPro camera planted on the banks of the Kurile Lake in the South Kamchatka Sanctuary
The video's description says videographer Dmitry Shpilenok planted the camera with the hope of catching footage of bears fishing for salmon in the lake, but the GoPro instead set off one bear's curiosity.
The footage shows a bear rapidly run up to the camera and give it a quick sniff before grabbing it in its jaws.
The camera recorded a brief glimpse of the inside of the bear's mouth before the video ends.
It was unclear whether the GoPro survived the bear encounter intact.

How to Lower Your Mortgage Payments
You may be able to take advantage of a long standing federal program to save hundreds of dollars on your mortgage payment every month or shorten your mortgage term and save money in the long run.
The Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) is a unique program that helps certain homeowners refinance their mortgage to a more affordable monthly payment and at better terms. With HARP now extended through December 2016, homeowners across the country have more time to take advantage of this program to save money every month.
If you purchased a home before June 2009, have little or no equity in your home but are current on your mortgage payment (meaning no 30-day-plus late payments in the last six months and no more than one in the past 12 months), and the loan is owned by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae, you may be eligible to refinance your mortgage through HARP.
More than 3.3 million Americans have taken advantage of HARP since 2009, saving them $200 on average per month. Here’s how you can take advantage of this program:
• Gather your basic financial information before you contact your mortgage company. You’ll need: Your latest mortgage statements, including information on a second mortgage (if applicable); and your current income details (paystub or income tax return).
• Find out if Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac owns your loan. In order to qualify for HARP, your loan must be owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Contact your mortgage company or visitwww.knowyouroptions.com/loanlookup or https://ww3.freddiemac.com/loanlookup/.
If your loan is owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, ask your lender if it is an approved HARP lender. Be prepared to provide the information necessary to verify your current source of income. If your lender is not an approved HARP lender, find out who is near you on the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac websites.
• Go through the application, approval and closing process. If your lender determines you qualify for HARP, they will guide you through the process.
HARP has no appraisal requirements or loan-to-value limits, so you can apply regardless of how far your home may have fallen in value. Without this program, qualifying for refinancing can be virtually impossible for homeowners who are underwater.
Remember, the opportunity to get a HARP refinance expires December 31, 2016 and there is still time to take advantage of low mortgage rates.
Make 2015 the year you take the step to save money on your home loan. Call your lender to apply now and begin to save. For more information, visit www.HARP.gov..

Famed Steam Engine Coming to Area
Nickel
Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4
Berkshire-type steam locomotive will roll into The Historic Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg on
Labor Day.
Six hundred riders are expected on this trip as Steamtown National Historic Site and the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will partner with Norfolk Southern’s 21st Century Steam program to operate two special summer steam excursions! Nickel Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4 Berkshire-type steam locomotive, owned by the Fort Wayne group, will operate Saturday, September 5 to Delaware Water Gap and Monday, September 7, to Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg. NKP #765 is a “sister” locomotive to Steamtown’s NKP #759 locomotive, on static display inside the park’s Roundhouse. Tickets will be sold online only, at http://fortwaynerailroad.org/ Historic steam locomotive no. 765 is a high-stepping, fourteen-wheeled, magnificent machine that stands 15 feet tall, weighs 404 tons, goes over 60 miles an hour and restored to the way it looked and sounded when it was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. These were precision machines forged and crafted from solid steel. They meant something to those who worked in their shadow. Make no mistake, however, these iron horses, so often romanticized, take hard, unwieldy work to corral and maintain. They lived and breathed, had voices and moods, and hummed with an audible heartbeat; they were the most human of all our inventions. The 765 is one of a famous class of steam locomotives called the Berkshire; one known for its super power technology and aesthetic charm. The men and women of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society saved the 765 from becoming a rusting monument in a city park and restored it to operating condition in 1979. For fourteen years thereafter, the 765 would run special excursion trains around the country to the delight of 100,000 passengers. From 1993 to 2005, the 765 was completely rebuilt, and is now more than ready to reach another hundred thousand people. Food and entertainment will be available throughout the town and at the depot. For local information email Sonya Cole at [email protected]. September 12

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
