Back-To-School .........Ignoring Child Safety Could Be Costly Harrisburg, PA – As the new school year gets underway, motorists need to be vigilant in order to avoid potentially tragic crashes and strong penalties as school buses return to the roads to pick up students waiting for a ride.
"Our lives are filled with distractions, but we simply must put them aside and focus on the road ahead when we get behind the wheel," said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards. "Even a momentary distraction – especially around school buses and in school zones -- can lead to tragedy." Motorists approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended are required to stop in all directions at least 10 feet from the bus. The only exception to the law is when a school bus is stopped on the opposite side of a highway clearly separated by a divider, such as concrete barriers or grass medians. Even in this situation, motorists should remain watchful of students trying to cross the road to catch the bus. If convicted of violating Pennsylvania’s school bus stopping law, drivers face a $250 fine, five points on their driving record and a 60-day license suspension. Students are also exposed to traffic while waiting for buses or walking to the bus stop or school. Motorists are reminded to be cautious and alert when approaching a school bus stop and to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. In addition to watching for school buses, motorists should be alert in school zones, which become hubs of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Motorists are required to slow down to the posted speed limit of 15 mph in school zones. If convicted, violators face a fine and three points on their driving record. For more information on Pennsylvania's school bus stopping law, school bus safety tips and programs, visit PennDOT's highway safety website, www.JustDrivePa.org, and select the "School Bus Safety" link under the Traffic Safety Information Center Mighty Mopar Car Show .........This "rat rod" was an interesting site at the Mighty Mopar Car Show Sunday. Rattlesnake Selfie Bites
Alex Gomez of Lake Elsinore was hospitalized Monday after he picked up a rattlesnake discovered in his back yard and took photos with the snake hanging around his neck.
The photo shoot came to a premature end when the snake bit Gomez on the hand.
"I'm shocked that he would have that things around his neck," Gomez's mother, Deborah, told CBS Los Angeles. "It could've bit his neck, and that would have been it. That's just being a fool."
Deborah, who shared her son's snake selfies with KTLA-TV, said she wanted her son to be embarrassed of his actions.
"I told him the news people had been calling, and he said 'Mom, you better not,' and I said 'I'm going to.' I'm going to teach him a real good lesson when he gets home. No mercy for him," she said.
Gomez was released from the hospital Thursday, but doctors said they will continue to monitor the venom in his system to ensure his hand injury doesn't worsen

Superman Flies w/Drone on London Patrol
Barry Craig of London taped a Superman action figure to his Phantom 3 drone andshot a short video of it flying around the streets of the capital city.
Users on Youtube questioned the legitimacy of the stunt, arguing that the figure appears to move much more than the drone. "Nope. That would be so much hard than just doing it for real," replied Craig. "Camera is gimbaled, figure isn't."
PSYCHOLOGY....
Why is it So Hard to Accept Compliments?
Why is it so hard to accept a compliment? Experts say it can often be associated with societal expectations that women appear humble or demur; and other times it’s because of one’s own negative self-image.
In an effort to encourage women and girls to lean in and listen to the compliments they receive, Nutrisystem created the #NowBelieveIt campaign. To learn more, watch their video on Nutrisystem’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/Nutrisystem.
The next time you get a compliment, consider stopping for a minute to hear the message -- you’re a good friend, a great mom, you work hard, you’re smart, you’re pretty -- and take it to heart.
Then, pay it forward and tell someone else what you love or admire about them by using these simple tips.
Be Honest
Would you want to hear a compliment that isn’t true? Then why give that to someone else. Be honest and don’t use compliments as conversation fillers.
Stay in the Present
Sometimes compliments at work come with a caveat -- a reminder that despite good work, there’s more to be done, such as, “That was great, and don’t forget tomorrow’s deadline.” Instead of focusing on what needs to be done in the future, simply give the compliment then come back later to talk about that other project.
Tell Them Why
When giving a compliment, be sure to tell the other person why. Simply saying, “You did a great job today” may fall flat. Try to elaborate with something like, “You did a great job today and your enthusiasm made our whole team shine.”
Shift Your Focus
Compliments that include put-downs often leave the receiver feeling less than flattered. Try to stay away from saying things like “You look so good for your age” or “You’re an awesome parent considering how busy you are all the time.” Shift your focus to the compliment itself -- it’s more meaningful on its own.
Dig Deeper
According to a recent poll, individuals want to hear compliments that dig deeper into who they truly are, such as ones about their personality, about being a good friend, about what they do, about their intellect and about being a good parent.
Focus on these traits when giving compliments and the receiver will be much more receptive to hearing them and believing them.
All it takes is a little practice.

The story is about a young girl on a trip to a local pumpkin patch and how her choice of a pumpkin ostracizes her from her peers.
Her producing team are all Pennsylvania natives. They decided to return to their hometown area to film because they love Pennsylvania and want to bring support to the local community. They are currently crowd-funding through the website Seed&Spark. They are 37% funded toward their goal of $11,000. They need to raise at least 80% of their goal or they lose all of their generous contributions. "Picked" is a story that anyone can relate to as it deals with the decisions we make as children and how they can affect the decisions we make throughout our lives. Her team and I want to share this beautiful story with the community and hope that you can help spread the word. Summertime at Weona ParkCarousel

Famed Steam Engine Coming to Area
Nickel
Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4
Berkshire-type steam locomotive will roll into The Historic Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg on
Labor Day.
Six hundred riders are expected on this trip as Steamtown National Historic Site and the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will partner with Norfolk Southern’s 21st Century Steam program to operate two special summer steam excursions! Nickel Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4 Berkshire-type steam locomotive, owned by the Fort Wayne group, will operate Saturday, September 5 to Delaware Water Gap and Monday, September 7, to Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg. NKP #765 is a “sister” locomotive to Steamtown’s NKP #759 locomotive, on static display inside the park’s Roundhouse. Tickets will be sold online only, at http://fortwaynerailroad.org/ Historic steam locomotive no. 765 is a high-stepping, fourteen-wheeled, magnificent machine that stands 15 feet tall, weighs 404 tons, goes over 60 miles an hour and restored to the way it looked and sounded when it was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. These were precision machines forged and crafted from solid steel. They meant something to those who worked in their shadow. Make no mistake, however, these iron horses, so often romanticized, take hard, unwieldy work to corral and maintain. They lived and breathed, had voices and moods, and hummed with an audible heartbeat; they were the most human of all our inventions. The 765 is one of a famous class of steam locomotives called the Berkshire; one known for its super power technology and aesthetic charm. The men and women of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society saved the 765 from becoming a rusting monument in a city park and restored it to operating condition in 1979. For fourteen years thereafter, the 765 would run special excursion trains around the country to the delight of 100,000 passengers. From 1993 to 2005, the 765 was completely rebuilt, and is now more than ready to reach another hundred thousand people. Food and entertainment will be available throughout the town and at the depot. For local information email Sonya Cole at [email protected]. September 9

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
