Twisted Snakes do Deadly Dance
The video, posted to YouTube, shows the two venomous snakes twisting together in a double helix shape in what the uploader described as a "deadly snake dance" or "tango" but may have also been a mating ritual.
The "dance" comes to an end when one of the snakes slithers off with the second serpent in hot pursuit.

Hikers Film Fall From Bridge
The fall took place on Sept. 3 but the video was recently released.
The Hope Ruahine bridge, located on the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk portion of the park, was rated for 10 people at one time.
Though none of the hikers were injured, Mike Slater, deputy director of general operations for the country's Department of Conservation, said manufacturing defects were to blame for the incident. Quench cracks and embrittlement took a toll on a section of high-tensile chain with a diameter of 24 millimeters and led to its sudden fracture.
Slater told the NZ Herald the bridge was inspected in September of 2014 and an engineer also analyzed the bridge 18 months ago. Slater said his department needs additional resources to carry out an inspection of all of the park's bridges, particularly after seven years of budget cuts.
The incident had a much better outcome than the deaths of 14 individuals at New Zealand's Cave Creek in April of 1995. Thirteen students and one Department of Conservation officer died when a poorly built viewing platform gave way. Slater said that incident spurred the department to install "a very comprehensive and robust asset management approach" to prevent such events.
The Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk is one of nine administered by the Department of Conservation. The track takes three to four days to hike through and is popular with tourists.
Five Easy Fall Home Décor Projects
1. Picture Perfect Gallery Wall
Show love to your favorite seasons by showcasing them on a featured gallery wall, which is a top design trend in 2015:
• Gather a series of picture frames. Use ones that vary in size to create an eclectic look.
• Using burlap, white paper, newspaper, or even pages from an old wallpaper book, place the material on the frame’s backing to create a unique backdrop.
• Next, customize the gallery for fall by placing real or faux foliage in the frames. Since the frames are already hung, you can easily swap out décor for different seasons.
2. Painted Accent Wall
Take your living area from lifeless to lovely with a pop of color. Paint an accent wall in a deep, rich hue to set the autumn scene in your home. Darker paint colors tend show more imperfections, so ensure a flawless finish by using painter’s tape to achieve sharp paint lines on trim, baseboards, crown molding and around doors and windows. You can prevent paint bleed with FrogTape brand painter’s tape, which is treated with patented PaintBlock Technology to leave you with a top-notch paint job.
3. Curb Appetites in Style with an Edible Centerpiece
Create a palatable centerpiece as a practical, yet pretty addition to the table with these steps:
• Wrap the base of a candle with plastic wrap to prevent direct contact with your filler material.
• Nestle the candle into a bowl and surround it with small apples, cranberries or coffee beans.
• Take your centerpiece to new heights by painting a decorative stripe or pattern around the bowl.
4. Keep Cocoa Warm with DIY Chalkboard Mugs
Serve guests in style with customizable chalkboard mugs -- here’s how:
• Tape around the top of a porcelain mug and handle, creating a straight line to paint beneath, using painter’s tape, such as FrogTape. Paint the taped-off area with porcelain chalkboard paint. Remove the tape when you finish painting and allow the mug to dry for 24 hours.
• Bake your mug according to your paint’s directions. Allow it to cool. The paint will be as permanent as baked enamel -- and dishwasher and microwave safe.
• Personalize the mug with festive phrases for visitors.
5. Personalize Pumpkins with Paint
Easily amplify your pumpkins with glam -- here’s how:
• Buy a few different shaped gourds and pumpkins from your local farmer’s market or grocery store.
• Spray paint them with a metallic finish, white, lacquer or a textured paint.
• Protect areas you don’t want painted (like the stems) with painter’s tape. You can also use the tape to create designs on the pumpkins prior to painting.

October 16Speaker Series: Anita Collins, Ph.D. Lehigh Gap Nature CenterFriday, October 16, 7:00-8:00 PM
For over 100 years, twenty miles of the north side of the Kittatinny Ridge was denuded because of heavy metal and acid rain contamination from the NJ Zinc Company plant in Palmerton. Attempts to remediate that damage were unsuccessful until members of Lehigh Gap Nature Center proposed the use of native grasses to initiate restoration of soils and stabilization of the contaminants. Within a few years the effectiveness of this approach was evident. Now LGNC is the center of active recreation, education, conservation and research activity, almost all of it carried out by volunteers. Registration is required. |

(BELOW IS A STORY THAT APPEARED IN THIS PAPER AUGUST 4, 2015) Bangor High graduate Karen (Shoemaker) Katchur has published The Secrets of Lake Road (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press) . Karen Katchur -- Official Author Website . In her book, Jo has been hiding the truth about her role in her high school boyfriend’s drowning for sixteen years. Every summer, she drops her children off with her mother at the lakeside community where she spent summers growing up, but cannot bear to stay herself; everything about the lake reminds her of the guilt she feels. For her daughter Caroline, however, the lake is a precious world apart; its familiarity and sameness comforts her every year despite the changes in her life outside its bounds. At twelve years old and caught between childhood and adolescence, she longs to win her mother’s love and doesn’t understand why Jo keeps running away. Then seven-year-old Sara Starr goes missing from the community beach. Rescue workers fail to uncover any sign of her—but instead dredge up the bones Jo hoped would never be discovered, shattering the quiet lakeside community’s tranquility. Caroline was one of the last people to see Sara alive on the beach, and feels responsible for her disappearance. She takes it upon herself to figure out what happened to the little girl. As Caroline searches for Sara, she uncovers the secrets her mother has been hiding, unraveling the very foundation of everything she knows about herself and her family in this riveting novel that is impossible to put down and hard to forget. Karen Katchur holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from West Chester University and a Masters of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg University. Ask The Doc........
Technology can be wonderful!
garywilliamsdmd.com
I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing.
Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making.
I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile.
It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry.
Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com.
