Beware: IRS Phone Scammers An aggressive phone scam, which has been described by members of Congress as “the largest and most pervasive”impersonation scam in the history of the Internal Revenue Service. has been reported across the United States.
Victims of this scam typically receive a phone call wherein callers (usually with foreign accents) claim to be IRS employees, using false names and IRS identification badge numbers.2 The scammers are quite convincing and often know a lot about their targets. They also alter the telephone caller ID to make it appear as though the IRS is calling.3 Victims are informed that they owe money to the IRS, and, if they protest, they are threatened with arrest, deportation, or suspension of a business or driver’s license.4 Many people are justifiably fearful of such consequences, and hastily provide the requested personal and financial information to satisfy their “back taxes.” Some victims were reportedly told they were owed a refund, as an attempt to trick them into providing personal information.5 According to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, more than 10,000 calls per week have been made to households across the country. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received nearly 55,000 complaints regarding IRS imposter scams last year; a 25- percent increase from 2013. In the last two years, more than 400,000 people have filed complaints with the U.S.Treasury Department in reference to IRS imposters. Over 3,000 people have been defrauded out of more than 15 million dollars. Because many of these scams originate from outside the country, they are difficult for law enforcement to investigate. For that reason, consumer education is the best way to safeguard your money. The IRS reminds people that it is fairly simple to spot an IRS imposter. Listed below are five things the scammers often do, but the IRS will not. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam. The IRS will never: 1. Call to demand immediate payment, nor will they call regarding taxes owed without first having mailed you a notice. 2. Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe. 3. Threaten to contact local police or other law-enforcement agencies to have you arrested for not paying. 4. Require you use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card. 5. Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS requesting money or bank account information for a refund, here is what you should do: If you know you owe taxes or think you might, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees can assist you with a payment issue. Lost License - Student Uses Barbie Jeep
Tara Monroe, 20, a junior studying industrial engineering, said her license was suspended and her father took her car away after she refused a Breathalyzer test during a DWI stop following a Waka Flocka Flame concert.
"Riding a bike around campus sucks," Monroe told the San Antonio Express-News. "Like really sucks."
Monroe's solution came in the form of a $60 electric Barbie Jeep she found for sale on Craigslist. She said she named the vehicle Charlene in honor of its previous owner.
LEISURE LIVING....
Tips For Fall Recreation
If you’re a fall recreation enthusiast, take some time to create a checklist of the items you’ll need to take care of before you dash off on your autumn adventures. Whether you’re planning a fall camping trip or simply hanging around at home, this season can be a bit unpredictable.
Stay safe, comfortable and productive during the fall with these helpful tips:
Make a plan. Fall is a busy season for everyone, so take a moment to map out your weeks and create a solid plan. You’re much more likely to fit in all your fun fall activities when you plan them according to your to-do list. From yard work to hunting trips, make a rough plan so you know exactly what you have going on each week.
Do your research. If you’re going out and about this fall, educate yourself and become familiar with the local area. This will help you be aware of any surprises that might come up including poisonous plants, dangerous animals and bugs. It’s always a good idea to take a map and compass along, even if you will mostly be using a smart phone.
Gear up. Before the season begins, take inventory of all your recreational gear. Is there anything that needs replacing or repair? From camping supplies to leaf blowers, check all your autumn materials. Consider some new equipment to enhance your fall activities, like a Polaris RANGER Utility Vehicle. A utility vehicle not only helps you transport your recreational gear, but will help you tackle tough jobs in your yard.
Watch the weather. Fall weather changes quickly and each day is different from the next. Always check the forecast before you go out. Don’t be fooled by warm weather, as it can turn chilly at a moment’s notice. Layering is your best bet to withstand the unpredictable fall temperatures.
Stock up on firewood. Once autumn hits, dry fire wood can become scarce. Make sure your collection is fully stocked to enjoy fires well into season, especially as the weather starts to cool down. If you’re headed out camping, pack your own wood so you don’t have to risk skipping out on a warm, toasty fire.
Dress for visibility. Even if you’re not a hunter, make yourself visible when you’re outside or in an area where hunters frequent. Wear colors that stand out like bright fluorescent red, orange and green. Stay away from earth or animal colored outerwear. Don’t forget to protect everyone with you, even your dog.
Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to a safe and memorable fall season, free of injury and full of enjoyment. For more fun recreational inspiration, visit: polaris.com

The story is about a young girl on a trip to a local pumpkin patch and how her choice of a pumpkin ostracizes her from her peers.
Her producing team are all Pennsylvania natives. They decided to return to their hometown area to film because they love Pennsylvania and want to bring support to the local community. They are currently crowd-funding through the website Seed&Spark. They are 37% funded toward their goal of $11,000. Famed Steam Engine Coming to Area
Nickel
Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4
Berkshire-type steam locomotive will roll into The Historic Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg on
Labor Day.
Six hundred riders are expected on this trip as Steamtown National Historic Site and the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will partner with Norfolk Southern’s 21st Century Steam program to operate two special summer steam excursions! Nickel Plate Road (NKP) #765, a 2-8-4 Berkshire-type steam locomotive, owned by the Fort Wayne group, will operate Saturday, September 5 to Delaware Water Gap and Monday, September 7, to Dansbury Depot in East Stroudsburg. NKP #765 is a “sister” locomotive to Steamtown’s NKP #759 locomotive, on static display inside the park’s Roundhouse. Tickets will be sold online only, at http://fortwaynerailroad.org/ Historic steam locomotive no. 765 is a high-stepping, fourteen-wheeled, magnificent machine that stands 15 feet tall, weighs 404 tons, goes over 60 miles an hour and restored to the way it looked and sounded when it was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. These were precision machines forged and crafted from solid steel. They meant something to those who worked in their shadow. Make no mistake, however, these iron horses, so often romanticized, take hard, unwieldy work to corral and maintain. They lived and breathed, had voices and moods, and hummed with an audible heartbeat; they were the most human of all our inventions. The 765 is one of a famous class of steam locomotives called the Berkshire; one known for its super power technology and aesthetic charm. The men and women of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society saved the 765 from becoming a rusting monument in a city park and restored it to operating condition in 1979. For fourteen years thereafter, the 765 would run special excursion trains around the country to the delight of 100,000 passengers. From 1993 to 2005, the 765 was completely rebuilt, and is now more than ready to reach another hundred thousand people. Food and entertainment will be available throughout the town and at the depot. For local information email Sonya Cole at [email protected]. September 9

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
