The Slate Belt Regional Police Department is pleased to announce the dates for the 2016 Slate Belt Regional Junior Police Academy - June 27 to July 1, 2016. If you have any questions about the academy please email Officer Long at: Rlong@slatebeltpd.com. Applications will be available in April for boys and girls ages 12 to 15 who attend the Pen Argyl Area School District. They join more than 4,000 other registered and licensed practical nurses who have graduated from Northampton since 1968. Cartwright-Newland Meet & Greet Petition Signing Available
Congressman Matt Cartwright (17th Congressional District) and Roseto Borough Councilwoman Jennifer Newland are coming together for Cartwright’s re-election and for Newland’s nomination for Delegate to the Democratic National Convention. On February 8 from 6pm to 8pm you are cordially invited to attend a meet and greet plus petition signing event with both candidates at Pies to Dies For located at 5 Broadway, Bangor. Rep. Matt Cartwright was first sworn into Congress on January 3, 2013. During his time in the House of Representatives serving the people of northeastern Pennsylvania and the eastern Lehigh Valley, Cartwright has stepped forward as a leader as Regional Whip. Further, Cartwright has introduced over 60 pieces of legislation that aim to help seniors, military families, veterans, students, workers, consumers, the middle class, and the environment – the majority of which were introduced with bi-partisan support. In addition, Cartwright has been appointed to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform; on the Subcommittee on Health Care, Benefits, and Administrative Rules; Cartwright; on the House Committee on Natural Resources; and was named to the Democratic Outreach and Engagement Task Force. He has also been named a Moderate Democratic Leader in the House by a leading legislator ranking organization. Jennifer Newland has a long history of community service and activism. She started by joining the Roseto Park Board and Roseto Community Watch. Jennifer’s community service then grew into helping others around the Slate Belt with boxes of love for needy children and assisting fire victims. She was Chair to the Cent’ Anni Parade in Roseto, and thereafter was elected to Roseto Borough Council. Jennifer also served as the PTSA President for 8 years for the secondary schools at Bangor and currently serves as the Recording Secretary for the Northampton County Democratic Committee. Newland was also named Volunteer of the Year by F.A.C.E.S. in 2015 and Elected Official of the Year in 2015 for the Slate Belt and Lehigh Valley area. Newland is currently running for Delegate to serve at the Democratic National Convention. Newland was the only resident from the Slate Belt area chosen to run for this esteemed position.
