HALLOWEEN....

Mischievous twists on your family's
favorite Halloween tricks and treats

Picture
(BPT) - When Halloween rolls around, ghosts and goblins roam the streets. With surprise creatures popping out of coffins and silly, spooky pranks around the neighborhood, it is truly the most mischievous time of year.
Halloween is full of family fun, and this year you can jump start the celebration well before Oct. 31. Here are some ideas to help your family really get in the spooky, playful spirit this fall.
* Share your best scare: Halloween is all about spooky stories and scary movies. Who hasn’t sat around a campfire or in the basement with a flashlight to share their creepiest tales? This year, invite your family and friends over and light a fire in the fireplace for some good old fashioned Halloween storytelling. Think you’ve got the most bone-chilling tale? Take the fun online and use the hashtag #Cheetales to enter the Tiny Tales of Terror Twitter Challenge. Just tweet your spookiest tale in 140 characters or less, for a chance to have your story turned into a short video posted on Chester Cheetah’s Twitter page. See rules for additional details at CheetosHalloween.com.
* Haunt your own house – If there aren’t many haunted houses in your community, why not create your own? Set up a haunted walk through your backyard and ask your friends to dress up as the spooky characters that will jump out at visitors. Or find an open event hall or barn that isn’t in use during the month of October and ask if you can turn the space into a community-run haunted house. Make the space family-friendly by planning fun fall activities during the day and when the sun sets, bring the more mischievous ghouls out to play.
* Prank playfully – If you’re hosting a Halloween party this year, dial-up the fun by serving guests goblets filled with mysterious red-colored beverages. Tempt them to try severed-finger cookies. And if you’re in the mood to really play with your food, serve-up the new limited-edition Cheetos Bag of Bones. Each bag is filled with a variety of skeleton-shaped snacks like skulls, ribcages, bones and paws that you can use to build your own edible skeleton. They’re covered in white cheddar seasoning to complete the ghostly look.
Once the party is in full-swing, encourage guests to get involved in pranking the neighbors with a little TP trick – digitally, of course. Visit www.CheetosHalloween.com to enter the street address of the location you want to virtually target with toilet paper. Upon completing your online TP challenge, you will be entered into a weekly sweepstakes for a chance to win gift cards or cash prizes, up to $1,000. See rules on the site for additional details.
* Dine on dangerous delights – Keep the Halloween fun going strong with a dinner everyone will be sure to remember. There are many scary – but yummy – dishes you can create. For example, carve faces into bell peppers, remove their tops and insides, and then stuff them with spaghetti noodles and let some hang out as brains. Mix your favorite spaghetti topping inside the pepper and you’ll have a fun meal that’s ready to go. Serve a side dish of peeled grapes or olives as eyeballs and graveyard dirt dessert made of crumbled cookies and chocolate pudding.
Let the Halloween fun begin. For more ideas, follow Chester Cheetah on Twitter at @ChesterCheetah and get the latest on his dangerously cheesy antics this Halloween.

    • Pet dog models designer menswear

Picture
A pet dog has become an internet sensation after becoming a menswear model for designer clothing lines.Bodhi, a four-year-old Shiba Inu - aka Menswear Dog - has gained over 146,000 followers on his Instagram, where he is featured wearing suits, ties and glasses.
Owners Dave Fung, 29, and Yena Kim, 27 started dressing him up as a weekend hobby - but have since turned their pet's good looks into a business.
Now big name designers, including Coach, Salvatore Ferragamo, and ASOS have signed Bodhi up as a paid model for their brands.
Ms Kim said: "We were bored one Saturday afternoon so we dressed Bodhi up in serious menswear.
"When we put the clothes on him he just lit up - he started posing for us and everything.
"He looked amazing, like Fantastic Mr. Fox, so we posted it on Facebook as a joke.
"After receiving such positive feedback, we created a blog for Menswear Dog, and people went crazy - it was even featured on GQ Magazine's site the next day."
Now brands send Bodhi clothes to model for them, and his owners shop around for new outfits for him to photograph in.
Ms Kim, a fashion designer for Ralph Lauren, and Mr Fung, a graphic designer, are currently working on a clothing line for dogs and hope to raise money to sponsor rescue animals.

In 2009, the film Miente, based on Different, was released worldwide. Ávila’s follow-up novel,
While his novels have given him considerable recognition, Ávila’s poetry made him one of the most acclaimed figures in Puerto Rican literature. Performances are Oct. 23, 24 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, on NCC’s Main Campus in Bethlehem Township.

Admission to all shows is free and open to the public with a donation of non-perishable food items or a contribution to the Norman Roberts Scholarship Fund. Reservations are suggested; call 610-861-5524 or email NCC-theatre-tickets@northampton.edu.

Ask The Doc........

Tomorrow's Leaders

Picture
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD

Well, it’s that time again! In most North American homes, the count-down is on for the beginning of a new school year.
It always gets me thinking about the great sampling of people we see in our dental office. From newborns to 90-somethings.
Last week someone asked me the question, “looking in the mouths of many 40 and 50 year-olds, what could have been different if health was addressed when they were, say…15 years old? The answer is a resounding, a lot!
We realize that we do have the opportunity and know-how to change the health future for today’s school kids.
In the year 2014 we have the advantage of all the research, learning, and yes, mistakes that have been made by humans, to learn from. And what does that information say?
Step in early (school age), and maximize every variable for success. Dentistry knows how to achieve a successful long-term outcome. Once dentistry, parents and children comply; we can change the future of your family’s overall health, for the better. Call a Dental Professional today, and change your future.

Cash Prizes for pumpkin carving contest and volunteers needed

Octoberfest this year will be held at Bangor Memorial Park on Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th.
We are looking for groups to participate in the themed, carved pumpkin display. Maybe you own a business and you have a group of employees that would like to get together to carve some pumpkins to enter in the display.  You can pick whatever theme you would like.  You can search for ideas on the internet.
There have been some interesting themes in the past such as Harry Potter, classic cars, Toy Story, Elvis, etc. Do you play a sport?  Maybe your group wants to carve pumpkins to show that sport?   The only cost to enter is that you have to buy your own pumpkins. A group of themed pumpkins should have at least 6 or more in their display.
There will be CASH prizes awarded for the top 3 best group of themed, carved pumpkins. Prizes range from $100 to $25.00.
Our scarecrow making booth is in need of adult size small or youth sized clothing such as old pants and shirts.
We are also in search of volunteers to help in all aspects of the event.  Volunteers are needed to help with selling tickets, collecting tickets at booths, running booths, helping to set up and clean up the pumpkin displays and working in the food stand.
For more information or to volunteer contact Sherry at  610-588-6894 or Debbie at bangorparkboard@gmail.com
