A Farm to Table Tour
As a special fundraiser there will be a Farm to Table Tour - Saturday September 6, 2014 at Quiet Valley’s historic farm museum. Folks will be able to visit the farm for a very tasty tour focused on end of summer produce and traditional harvest lore. Evening is an especially lovely time on the farm and it tends to give you a better sense of what it might have truly felt like in rural Pennsylvania during the 1800s. From 4:00 to 7:00 pm tours will go out every half hour with the last tour at 7:00pm.
A presentation at the Bake Oven, which will be in operation, will feature two summer vegetables that can arrive in an overabundance at the end of the season. We’ll show you something to do with the excess tomatoes and zucchini that you may be blessed (or cursed) to have in your larder. At the open barn enjoy potato soup and learn something about spuds, a very versatile food and nutritious, too.
In the main barn try your hand at a harvest activity, learn about grains and try a tasty sample of a barley salad. The tour wouldn’t be complete without a sweet so in the schoolhouse cane sugar, honey, maple syrup and molasses will be discussed, all while visitors nibble on dessert.
If you have never visited the farm at twilight you won’t want to miss this special opportunity. This is a delicious and unique way to support Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. Come enjoy the delicious tastes of summer’s bounty.
The tour takes about an hour and a half and is $15.00 per adult, $10.00 for children 3-12.
All money raised goes to support the farm and its mission to preserve and present the agricultural history of the 1800s.

SBCC 16 Annual Longaberger
Ask The Doc........
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
Well, it’s that time again! In most North American homes, the count-down is on for the beginning of a new school year.
It always gets me thinking about the great sampling of people we see in our dental office. From newborns to 90-somethings.
Last week someone asked me the question, “looking in the mouths of many 40 and 50 year-olds, what could have been different if health was addressed when they were, say…15 years old? The answer is a resounding, a lot!
We realize that we do have the opportunity and know-how to change the health future for today’s school kids.
In the year 2014 we have the advantage of all the research, learning, and yes, mistakes that have been made by humans, to learn from. And what does that information say?
Step in early (school age), and maximize every variable for success. Dentistry knows how to achieve a successful long-term outcome. Once dentistry, parents and children comply; we can change the future of your family’s overall health, for the better. Call a Dental Professional today, and change your future.
