Twenty Nine Hospitalized After
Unknowingly ingesting Hallucinogens
Police said the 29 people were found stumbling around and talking in gibberishFriday at the hotel hosting the conference in Handoloh, Germany, and more than 150 emergency responders and medical staff were called to the scene.
The patients, ranging in age from 24 to 56, were hospitalized with symptoms including hallucinations, delusions, breathing problems, high heart rates and cramps.
Police said they are investigating the incident as a violation of the country's Narcotics Act and they are working to determine whether the convention participants ingested the drug knowingly.
"It must have been a multiple overdose. That does not support the view that the people concerned took the hallucinogen knowingly," Torsten Passie, a member of the German government's narcotics commission, told broadcaster NDR. "One has to assume that people were not told about the substance, its effects and risks before taking it."
Police said none of those suffering from the drug's effects had recovered sufficiently to be interviewed before Monday.
The Association of German Healing Practitioners, which represents homeopathy practitioners, released a statement saying none of its representatives were among those who ingested the hallucinogen at the conference.
"The organizers of this obscure conference are unknown to us and such events will not be tolerated by our association," The Independent quoted a representative as saying. "Unfortunately, the conference in Handeloh has severely damaged the image of the homeopathy profession...and we have clarified that such acts are not in the spirit of natural therapy, and contradict our values both morally and legally."
"The Association of German Healing Practitioners detests such misdemeanors," the representative said.

Elephants Throws Men From Table
The video, posted to YouTube by user knockbraun, shows Northern Irishman Stephen Montague, 39, and his brother-in-law, U.S. resident Shane Wolf, beingshoved away from the table by the elephant's tusks and trunk while they were having their dinner during a safari in the Mana Pools wildlife park.
Wolf sustained minor injuries from the animal's tusks and Montague was not harmed.
Montague's mother, Patricia, said the family was not deterred from their safari plans.
"They took what happened in their stride. The elephant wandered into the compound looking for something to eat," she told the Belfast Telegraph. "One of the guards threw it something but that made it bolder and it headed over to the table. Stephen is fine and that's what is most important to us."
The video's description said no one ever threw the elephant any food.
EDUCATION....
Mental Tricks to Help Raise Grades
Students looking to grasp complicated class material -- and still have time left at the end of the day -- can stand to benefit from tried-and-true systems for learning, say experts.
“Every student from a young age should learn speed reading, speed math and mnemonics,” says Harry Edelson, venture capitalist, managing director of Edelson Technology Partners and author of the new book, “Positivity: How to be Happier, Healthier, Smarter, and More Prosperous.”
Edelson, the son of an illiterate Russian immigrant, attributes his triumph over childhood poverty and success in the classroom and business world, to the adoption of key mental tricks and a positive attitude. In “Positivity,” he delves into how others may follow suit. Here he shares a few insights.
Speed Reading
Speed reading allows a reader to take in written material much more quickly than traditional reading. While those wishing to improve their speed reading skills once had to attend seminars or enroll in a course, now lessons are widely offered online. Free software, as well as apps available for download to your phone, can offer training in this useful art.
Speed Math
Like speed reading, speed math can help students finish their homework faster and with more precision. Additionally, learning this skill offers students a deeper understanding of mathematical operations. A range of books on the subject, as well as online tutorials, can supplement classroom learning.
Mnemonics
So much of school testing involves the need for recall and recitation, especially as schools nationwide adopt Common Core Standards. Mnemonics are a classic and effective method of memorization and information retention. Depending on the material, students can turn to existing mnemonic devices or create their own.
Positive Thinking
“I consider myself to be very lucky. I have been happy all my life even though I started out as poor as a child could be,” says Edelson, who says positivity can lend itself to success. “Take control of your senses, determine to be happy and develop a frame of mind that will make you and all those around you happy.”
For an edge this semester, don’t reinvent the wheel. Consider first the academic techniques and personal philosophies that have worked so well for other

The story is about a young girl on a trip to a local pumpkin patch and how her choice of a pumpkin ostracizes her from her peers.
Her producing team are all Pennsylvania natives. They decided to return to their hometown area to film because they love Pennsylvania and want to bring support to the local community. They are currently crowd-funding through the website Seed&Spark. They are 37% funded toward their goal of $11,000. They need to raise at least 80% of their goal or they lose all of their generous contributions. "Picked" is a story that anyone can relate to as it deals with the decisions we make as children and how they can affect the decisions we make throughout our lives. Her team and I want to share this beautiful story with the community and hope that you can help spread the word. Vendor Applications for Bangor Octoberfest

Ask The Doc........ Technology can be wonderful!
by Dr. Gary Williams, DMD
garywilliamsdmd.com I know sometimes new technologies can be frustrating and leave us questioning whether “progress” is worth the hassle. But, that is not the case with intra-oral digital scanners. We have been using our digital scanner at Family Dental Care now for 3 months, and the results are amazing. Sure, it’s pretty “cool” technology, and it has been totally comfortable for patients. No gagging going on! And the turn around time is much shorter. All of these are pluses, but here is the real benefit… the accuracy and fit of what we are making. I can comfortably predict a great fit of your new crowns, splints, Invisalign aligners, retainers, and anything else we scan for. That makes it worthwhile. It’s one thing to restore your mouth to health, but I want, you want, and you deserve to rest assured that what is placed in your mouth is the best possible fit known to dentistry. Digital scanning is here to stay at Family Dental Care. Feel free to ask us about our scanner. Garywilliamsdmd.com. Slate Belt Senior Center
